Evaluation of CSPN Workplace Challenge

We are evaluating the County Sports Partnership Network's (CSPN) Workplace Challenge.

The Challenge aims to develop a coherent package of interventions that can be used in the workplace to promote and increase physical activity and sport in inactive employees. The project is focused around a free web-based interactive tool which individuals can use to log their activities and compare their activities against colleagues in their own workplaces and in other organisations.

The Workplace Challenge kick started 2017 with an eight-week Active Lunch Challenge. The challenge aims to add bite size activities into the working day, urging people to make the most of the lightest and brightest part of the day with short bouts of activity - every ten minutes counts! The Active Lunch Challenge runs from 4th January to 18th February 2017 and is a national challenge that allows colleagues across the country to log their activities and earn activity points. Logging points allows you to climb the national leaderboard, with a selection of prizes of offer.

A mixed methods approach is being used to evaluate the project. The evaluation aims to:

  • learn about how the workplace can be used to engage the inactive in sport and physical activity
  • assess the effectiveness of a workplace physical activity programme aimed at increasing participation in physical activity and sport in inactive employees.

This evaluation is funded by the CSPN (as part of Sport England’s Get Healthy, Get into Sport programme) from 1st July 2013 to March 2018.
