Factors influencing physical activity in older adults

This fact sheet highlights some of the various factors which can affect levels of physical activity in the over 65s. These include:

  • biological and demographic factors
  • psychological factors
  • social factors
  • environmental factors.

The factsheet also provides data on the levels of sedentary behaviour in older adults and the negative health outcomes associated with high levels of sedentary time. It also highlights the positive health outcomes associated with reducing sedentary time.
